POWER

North-Eastern Region is blessed with a huge hydro potential which is estimated at about 58356 MW, out of which only about 7%,i.e., 3992 MW has so far been tapped, the remaining 93% is yet to be exploited and harnessed as per the latest estimates.

Electricity Act 2003, National Tariff Policy 2006, the Ultra Mega Power Projects(UMPP) and the Integrated Energy Policy etc. the Minister said that these Acts and Regulations need more strict implementation and monitoring to ensure the desired results.

Measures like increased return on equity (RoE) from 14 to 15.5 percent and additional 0.5 percent RoE for timely completion of projects is expected to attract further investments in the power sector of India. Further, tightened norms for operation will also increase efficiency in the system, the Minister added.
